LCA confirms sustainability of BeneMeat’s cultivated meat

PRAGUE — Czech biotech company BeneMeat and the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague recently published a new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) demonstrating the environmental impacts of cultivated meat.

The LCA, titled, “Life cycle assessment of industrial-scale cultivated meat production: case study of real market entry via pet food application,” was published in the peer-review journal The International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment.

As one of the first in the world, unlike previous estimates based on laboratory tests and rough estimates, this study works with primary data from BeneMeat’s pilot process and detailed models of a real-world industrial plant. The analysis is based on technology designed for a production capacity of 400kg (881.8 lbs) to 600 kg (1,322.8 lbs) of meat per day, offering a more accurate and relevant perspective on the environmental footprint of cultivated meat in commercial production, according to BeneMeat.
